Hive 11 [USA, Mississippi]

Post by spigot » 19 Aug 2018, 23:18

I have built 3 small hives (Hives 11,12,13) out of the intended 5, to be set up in Holly Springs, MS late March 2019. I have built the hives exactly along the recommended design. However, I have added a telescopic roof, super insulated to protect the bees from over heating in the Southern summers. Holly Springs hosts many feral bee colonies in trees and attics that swarm every single year by Mid-April until Mid-May.

Bees moved in Hive 11 between May 8th 2019 and May 18th 2019. The colony is strong, three feral bee colonies known at about half a mile: one in a cedar tree in which I am told bees have lived for more than a decade and two colonies in the attic of the antebellum house I have spotted 4 and 5 years ago.Image
